A wide range of modules are offered and each is structured in such a way so as to ensure the student develops their understanding of the key issues in education and English; at each level the student is required to complete 120 credits, made up of a certain number of core modules, and a number of optional modules at levels 2 and 3. Level 1: At this level the student is required to complete all of the following core modules: history, sociology and philosophy of education; introduction to higher education study; modern Britain (12 credits); the psychology of education (12 credits); development of language (24 credits); children and literature (24 credits); dramatically speaking (12 credits). Level 2: core modules include: policy, politics and curricula; educational diversity; developing employment skills; the English canon; genre writing; optional modules include: radical education; gender and education; inside the primary classroom; secondary education and beyond; drama and education; language barriers; images of childhood. Level 3: core modules include: education, globalisation and social change; approaches to literary and critical theory; independent inquiry; optional modules include: critical perspectives in educational psychology; how children learn mathematics; education and the arts; work related learning; language, literacy and learning; contemporary literature; communication and media; theatre in education; creative writing; learning for life: this module explores concepts of lifelong learning, the theories that support it together with its rationale; it further explores issues within prison education, education in the workplace and non-statutory provision.

Education studies represents an area of study that has developed in significance over the last 20 years, having progressed from the role of theoretical top-up for serving teachers to an area of study in its own right; this is due the changing face of education, the increasing diversity of provision, due to government policy, and a rise in the number of players throughout the educational world; the English language aspect of the course examines the importance of language for communication and learning and provides insight into the politics and history of language; it also considers the implications of language difficulties and how this impacts on children's development and their lives; the literature aspect of the degree involves the consideration of different genres of text; it includes the study of traditional and modern stories, poetry and non-fiction; the study of children's literature and how children are portrayed in literature and film develops throughout the course and in the final year there is a chance for the student to write and perform their own piece.
