Liverpool John Moores University, BA (Hons), Education Studies and Physical Education

At each level the student is required to complete 120 credits, made up of a certain number of core modules, and a number of optional modules. Level 1: At this level the student is required to complete all of the following core modules: history, sociology and philosophy of education; introduction to higher education study; modern Britain; the psychology of education; personal and social development through physical education; growth and development in physical education; fundamental skills in physical education. Level 2: at this level there is a mixture of core and optional modules; the core modules include: policy, politics and curricula; educational diversity; developing employment skills; developing skills in physical education; physical education and school sport; the optional modules include: radical education; gender and education; inside the primary classroom; secondary education and beyond. Level 3: at this level there is a mixture of core and optional modules; the core modules include: education, globalisation and social change; independent inquiry; physiological aspects of physical activity; advanced skills in physical education; the optional modules include: critical perspectives in educational psychology; how children learn mathematics; education and the arts; learning for life; work related learning; language, literacy and learning; the psychology of physical education and sport; sociological investigations in physical education and sport 2.

This course brings together all aspects of education and physical education to offer a unique and challenging course; the educational side of the degree looks at all aspects of education from the early years in nursery to the issues that currently face university education; the course explains and explores education at an individual level and the psychology of such learning, but also deals with education at an institutional level, through the analysis of education policy and the impact of globalisation of the education system within the UK; the physical education half of the course covers all aspects of physical education and allows the student to develop their own sporting interests; it also allows the student to develop their skills and knowledge of outdoor education through participation in many outdoor activities.
