The course is organised into seven core modules, including a final research project module that spans autumn, spring and summer period. Teaching takes place in the afternoons and evenings. A lower 2nd Class Honours degree in the area of health and human sciences; graduates from other disciplines with extensive relevant work experience are considered on an individual basis.

The course provides students with broad, advanced scientific and academic knowledge of addiction and addictive behaviours; they gain theoretical and practical knowledge relating to the main factors influencing addiction (including biological; social; cultural; psychological and economic perspectives); students develop skills relating to the research and assessment within addiction.
