Year 1 is aimed at introducing learning, research, and technical skills; students are encouraged to undertake a series of set projects introducing approaches relevant to the development of a photographic practice; these introductions are designed to encourage you to develop your creativity and understanding through photography. Year 2 develops the student’s own individual style and approach; the emphasis is on risk taking and the exploration of and experimentation with ideas, research methods, and imaginative approaches to practice. Year 3 focuses on realising the student’s creative potential by undertaking a major self-directed project; this practical body of work is supported by the writing of a contextual essay and research projects which will help to critically inform the practical work.

Throughout all years students undertake a lecture-based study course to help develop a critical and historical awareness of their own practice by introducing a wide range of ideas and debates appropriate to photography in particular and art and design in general.

Здания Университета находятся в центре города Манчестер (кампус All Saints на улице Oxford Road, кампус Aytoun недалеко от Piccadilly, кампусы Elizabeth Gaskell Hollings), а также в городах Дисбэри, Кру и Алсэгер (в графстве Чешир).
