At a minimum, a bachelor's degree with high academic standing from a recognized institution. In most cases SMArchS students hold professional degrees in architecture from accredited universities. Excellence in design, previous technical studies, proven facility in a computational environment and other specific skills may be used as admissions criteria depending on the area of study being pursued. TOEFL 600 (250 for computer-based, 100 for internet- based). Portfolios are optional, but recommended for SMArchS HTC. IELTS score(min 7) is preferred

The program has a strong interest in the methods of inquiry, development and testing of knowledge, and the building and application of theory as it pertains to the built environment. It allows students to specialize in areas in which they wish to obtain particular abilities. There are several areas of study and interdisciplinary work is encouraged.
