Stage 1: students study modules on Greek and Roman themes, which develop their ability to analyse and interpret primary evidence; students also explore themes in world history, developing an appreciation of historical approaches and methods across a broader time period; their remaining modules are chosen from topics in Greek and Roman culture, Greek or Latin language, archaeology or history. Stage 2: students study historiography as well as key historical periods and optional cultural topics; students also begin work on their portfolio, preparing a dossier of evidence on particular topics from a broad range of sources. Stage 3: students complete their portfolio, which gives students the chance to gain experience of research in the same way as a professional ancient historian; there is a choice of advanced modules in subjects such as ancient history and ancient culture, archaeology, Latin and Greek language.
