Students who successfully complete this course may be eligible to register for the MSc in Town Planning; to satisfy the requirements for the MSc students will be required to undertake and submit a dissertation (60 credits) within a year.

RTPI-accredited 1st degree in planning at Newcastle or at university and completed a year in practice; where 1st language is not English IELTS 6.5; TOEFL 90 (Internet-based); 577 (paper-based); or equivalent are required.

The course is accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI); completes the 2nd part of the route to a professionally accredited planning qualification; can be taken via 1 of 4 routes: Planning and urban design; European spatial planning; planning and regeneration; environmental planning; students may also participate in an Erasmus exchange in the 2nd semester part of a European research project; students can opt to take the 180-credit MA in Planning and Environment Research via this Diploma route thus giving the MA RTPI accreditation.
