Students choose 2 modules (60 credits) in ancient history from a list that may include: Archaic Greece; economic history; history and archaeology of pre-Roman and Roman Italy; Greco–Roman religion; social and cultural history of the Roman Empire; Roman Greece; Greek art and archaeology; history and archaeology of the ancient Near East; plus compulsory modules in: research training methods; Latin/Greek application; students who have no previous training in ancient languages take 30 credits in either Latin or Greek; students who already have knowledge of an ancient language study an additional topic in ancient history instead; plus a 14-18000 word dissertation.

A 2:1 Honours degree, or international equivalent, in classics or a related field; applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 7.0, TOEFL 100 (internet-based), 600 (paper-based), or equivalent.
