Compulsory modules (100 credits) typically include: The practice of history; either pathways in British history 1: social and economic history (recommended for ESRC applicants); or pathways in British history 2: political and cultural history (recommended for AHRC applicants); faculty research training module; dissertation preparation; research methods in history; information technology for historians; or introduction to qualitative methods; plus 1 optional module (20 credits) from a selection that may include: women and gender in Britain, c1650–1800; death and burial cultures in Britain, 1550–1800; making Ireland British? Ireland under the Act of Union; Welsh-English political and cultural interactions, 800–1066; early modern British political thought; politics in the Great War; the rise of the British popular press; cultural history of the British home; Thatcherism.

2:1 Honours degree in history; or a joint; or combined Honours degree with history; other degree qualifications are considered where appropriate: Especially where essay-based work formed the written component of the undergraduate programme; where 1st language is not English IELTS 7.5; TOEFL 107 (Internet-based); 625 (paper-based); or equivalent are required.
