Students take compulsory modules (120 credits) which cover: Conflict in European history; conflict in European history: case studies; the practice of history; research methods in history; faculty research training module; dissertation preparation; information technology for historians; or 1 module in a European language.

2:1 Honours degree or equivalent in history or a subject from humanities and social sciences: Literature; modern languages; classics; sociology; philosophy; anthropology; art history; geography; politics; or law; where 1st language is not English IELTS 7.0; TOEFL 600 (paper-based); or equivalent are required.

The social, political and military dimensions of conflict are explored; students are taught by historians whose expertise of continental Europe ranges from the 16th to the 20th centuries; students develop research skills and techniques; have opportunities to employ the methodologies and concepts used by historians of different European countries.
