Students take a selection of taught modules (100 credits) and undertake a research project and dissertation (80 credits); compulsory modules (70 credits) cover: Marine machinery systems; marine electrical power systems; marine electric propulsion; ship propulsion; advanced offshore design; research skills; marine power transmission; students also select optional modules (30 credits) from a list that may include: dynamics of offshore installations; offshore engineering applications; marine electro-technology; marine management technology; optimal marine design; surveying ships and offshore installations; the programme is also available with a preliminary year, which provides students with the necessary knowledge to study at Master’s level: typically students select 1 module (20 credits) from: marine engineering design; marine design; offshore design; small craft design; students also take 70 credits of optional modules and complete a project and report (30 credits).

2:1 Honours degree or equivalent in engineering or another relevant subject; where 1st language is not English IELTS 6.5; TOEFL 90 (Internet-based) or 577 (paper-based); or equivalent are required.
