The course consists of 3 areas: Academic training; patient management and laboratory skills; a laboratory or clinically based project leading to a dissertation; subjects covered include: conservation; occlusion and restorations; endodontics; periodontology; prosthodontics; dental materials science; an operative technique course; conduct practical work on a clinical simulator; practice die and model construction, waxing, casting and finishing; take a partial denture course and implant course.

2 or more years of experience at the start of the programme is preferred; where 1st language is not English IELTS 6.5; TOEFL 90 (Internet-based) or 577 (paper-based); or equivalent are required; Students must have the required immunisation against blood-borne viral disease and must not have any disease which would constitute a hazard to patients.

Part-time exemption may be available for dentists who have suitable postgraduate experience, and who are able to give assessed treatment for patients within their own surgeries; the course enables dentists to acquire advanced skills and knowledge in the field of restorative dentistry, integrating theory with practice; provides the foundations for: Enhanced general dental practice; specialist practice (overseas); specialist training in the restorative monospecialities of endodontology, periodontology and prosthodontics: the 1st 2 years of a 4 year programme; clinical academia; community dental services.
