You should meet or exceed these minimum high school expectations. Math—eight semesters English—eight semesters Lab science—six semesters (2 must be chemistry for Engineering applicants) Social studies—six semesters SAT or ACT scores with writing is strongly encouraged for international citizens. International citizens who submit an exceptional SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing(new), SAT Critical Reading(old), or ACT English score may be exempt from submitting additional scores. Generally, an exceptional score is within the top 15 percentile. TOEFL 80 iBT or higher. *In general, subscores are 20 or higher per section. In general, applicants have an overall score of 6.5 or higher with at least a 6.0 in each section. Comparative Literature takes as its special mandate the teaching and comparing of world literature, not only as social documents but also as works of art whose full appreciation depends on the study of languages, an understanding of diversity and globalization, and an appreciation of various media. The program encourages the study of literature by promoting the study of a second or third foreign language and by sponsoring courses and dissertations that cut across national boundaries. The three introductory courses, Introduction to Comparative Literature, World Literature: From the Beginning to 1700 A.D., and World Literature: 1700 to the Present, give students a base upon which to build their studies. Comparative Literature recognizes that some fields - classics, medieval studies, Renaissance, and post-colonial are inherently comparative and seeks to facilitate the work of students and scholars in these fields. The program also recognizes the role of other disciplines, particularly history and philosophy, but also the social sciences and psychology in developing theoretical approaches to literature. Students in the program are able to individualize their plans of study.

Purdue's campus is situated in the small city of West Lafayette, near the western bank of the Wabash River, across which sits the larger city of Lafayette. Academic buildings are mostly concentrated on the eastern and southern parts of campus, with residence halls and intramural fields to the west, and athletic facilities to the north. The Greater Lafayette Public Transportation Corporation (CityBus) operates eight campus loop bus routes on which students, faculty, and staff can ride free of charge with Purdue Identification.

The main campus in West Lafayette offers more than 200 majors for undergraduates, over 70 master’s and doctoral programs, and professional degrees in pharmacy and veterinary medicine. In addition, Purdue has 18 intercollegiate sports teams and more than 900 student organizations.
