Applicants must: Have an approved qualification in nursing, midwifery, health visiting or community public health nursing; be a graduate of this University or, a graduate of another approved university or institution; persons not being graduates who hold a recognised qualification which is approved by this university as being a suitable alternative to a primary degree may be considered; candidates who have successfully completed one of the school’s postgraduate certificates may transfer onto the MSc programme.

The programme normally extends over a period of 1 year, full-time or 3 years, part-time; there are 2 pathways within the MSc in nursing: General pathway: This pathway is designed to meet the needs of applicants coming from diverse backgrounds and differing specialties; modules for this programme include: Applied research methods and statistics (Compulsory); qualitative research methods (Compulsory); professional and ethical issues in health care; social issues and health care; independent study module; suicide: Risk factors, assessment and treatment; pharmacotherapeutics for practice; gerentology (knowing older people); biomedical aspects of cancer nursing; international, political and media influences on health care; scientific foundation of cardiology nursing; health care law; health assessment for non-medical prescribing; advanced practice pathway: This pathway provides students from all of the 4 nursing branches with the opportunity to consider and address current and emerging challenges in health care practice; Modules for this pathway include the 2 compulsory research modules and 1 other module from the general pathway and the following 3 compulsory modules: Health assessment for non-medical prescribing; pharmacotherapeutics for practice; biomedical sciences advanced practice.
