Вступительные требования

In general, applicants should have at least a 3.00 (B) grade point average, or the equivalent, in undergraduate work. Applicants for graduate study in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology must have: BA or BS degree or equivalent that provides a strong background in biology, strong ability and motivation, as indicated by academic record and letters of recommendation, and Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) scores. Scores from the GRE Biology subject exam are optional but can be helpful, particularly for students with nontraditional backgrounds in biology. These requirements do not preclude admission of qualified applicants who have majored in areas other than biology. Students should have completed coursework in ecology, evolution (or equivalent), mathematics (including calculus), and statistics prior to admission. Applicants whose native language is not English must also take either the TOEFL or IELTS test and must score at least 90 on the internet-based TOEFL. For those students who choose to take the IELTS in lieu of TOEFL, the minimum score is 7.

The Ecology & Evolutionary Biology graduate program faculty members are committed to training and mentoring graduate students to reach their full potential as scientists. We seek to facilitate students’ progression towards fulfilling, exciting careers in academia, industry, private sector, or government, and to develop their skills as future leaders in science and society. Our program is designed to foster close working relationships between students and faculty. Graduate study is tailored to the individual student. The program has a unique emphasis on research, where students have the possibility to start research during their first year. In addition, it includes formal class work such as classroom lectures, discussions, seminars, laboratory tutorials, and field studies. Students also have access to a number of courses in other departments to provide them with additional skill sets that complement their research interests.

Расположение

Houston has two airports: William P. Hobby (HOU), 11 miles to the south of campus and George Bush Intercontinental (IAH), 24 miles to the north. Intercontinental is a hub of global travel. Hobby is a hub for regional, domestic travel. Together they offer 1,000 flights a day in and out of Houston.


Most major rental car companies have locations at both airports. SuperShuttle and taxis provide ground transportation services from both airports.


The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, (METRO) provides bus and rail service from destinations around Houston. There is a METRORail stop across the street from the main entrance of the Rice campus. The rail line travels up and down Main Street, serving downtown, the Texas Medical Center and Reliant Park.
