A good Honours degree from an approved university or higher education institution; register for the degree of MPhil in the first instance and apply to transfer to PhD midway through your programme; in exceptional circumstances you may be able to register directly on to the PhD programme; if this is the case you are usually expected to hold a higher degree with a significant research component in a relevant subject area, from an approved university or higher education institution.

Research carried out by staff and students, who are members of the Centre for Research in Evolutionary Anthropology (CREA), encompasses a range of fields in primatology, including socioecology, life history strategies, communication, cognition, reproductive endocrinology, comparative morphology and crop-raiding behaviour; in addition, we investigate a number of key aspects of human evolution, particularly comparative skeletal morphology and palaeopathology of prehistoric and historic human populations, neurological evolution and the evolution of language and speech; current fieldwork sites include the Gashaka Gumpti National Park in Nigeria, Gibraltar and Jaú National Park in Brazil; collaborative research is ongoing with a number of external institutions including the German Primate Centre in Göttingen, Vienna and Budapest Natural History Museums, Sussex University, Institute of Zoology, Oxford Brookes University and Columbia University as well as with Roehampton colleagues in social anthropology.
