Year 1: Introduction to industrial relations; introduction to the English legal system; applied industrial relations: performance analysis and the theories and practice of negotiation; employment law; comparative European and international industrial relations; and anti discrimination law. Year 2: The historical development of trade unions: national and international; introductory economics; labour economics; applied labour relations: contemporary and developmental issues for trade unions; work, organisation and the management of change; and globalisation and international trade unionism. Final year: Managing the international political economy; trade unions and sustainable economic development; research methods; and international labour regulation; students also undertake an independent research project.

This course incorporates the certificate of higher education in labour relations and law as the 1st year; in addition to full-time and part-time weekly study, students may also take this course on a block residential basis; students studying on the part-time block residential course are expected to attend the college for a number of weekends each term.
