Students look at: Women's skills, experiences and abilities and how society often sells them short; contemporary women's issues in local, national and global contexts; literature created for and by women; local and global differences in women's lives and how women can, and do work together; how society structures women's lives; a piece of independent research.

The course is geared towards and around women¡¦s busy lives and multiple roles; it focuses on women's lives in their diverse breadth and difference over time, geography and social backgrounds from the perspective of women themselves; students ask questions of and engage is discussions and debates around what constitutes a woman's world, equality, participation, sexuality, violence, education, the media, art and music; the course also looks at knowledge created by women and for women in formal settings (like education, the law and other institutions) and informal settings (like women-organised spaces, self-publishing and more recently the internet); at its heart is a commitment to women, their lives and their possibilities.
