In the 1st year the student studies: early child development and health; childhoods; play; early education; in years 2 and 3 the student focuses on older children; work placements are an important part of the course and central to the student’s development; each year includes up to 32 days on placement; the student gains experience of education and health-related children’s services such as children’s centres, schools and hospitals; during work-based learning the student develops their skills by applying theory in real working situations and gathers information for assessment in a practice situation; the student completes a research project of their choice in the final year; typical projects have included: how children can take part in developing the curriculum; developing anti-bullying strategies; evaluating sex education in the curriculum; the role of gender in choosing GSCE subjects.

This course develops the student’s understanding of childhood and children from birth to 18 years; it takes a holistic approach to working with children and young people; it is suitable for people who have experience of working with children and young people and who want to take part in the debate about children and young people in today’s society; the student learns about the academic and professional perspectives on childhood and adolescence, and develops analytical and critical skills; these allow the student to evaluate the principles behind the children’s and young persons’ policy agenda; the main areas the student studies include: the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of children and young people; the political, legal and policy background; the theories of working with children and families.

Расположение

Город Шеффилд расположен в центре графства Йоркшир в Великобритании, имеет удобное транспортное сообщение со всеми крупными городами и аэропортами. Он находится всего двух часах езды на поезде от Лондона. Ближайший международный аэропорт находится в Манчестере.
