A recognised degree (priority is given to candidates with good degrees in core subjects or early childhood studies); a genuine understanding of the Early Years Curriculum and of the particular learning needs of young children; a minimum of 3 weeks school/nursery experience covering Foundation Stage 1, Foundation Stage 2 and Key Stage 1, undertaken within the past 2 years; English, mathematics and science GCSE at grade C or above; a good level of written and oral communication skills; a professional reference, usually from a headteacher or other professional qualified to comment on the applicant's suitability as a teacher; all candidates must be physically and mentally fit to teach young children; interview is required.
