The course consists of a number of internationally oriented, theoretically based core modules and a range of options, as well as the opportunity to do a substantial independent piece of research, for the 15,000 word dissertation; the course is delivered using the Blackboard virtual learning environment which is very interactive; part of the learning method will be to encourage group work between students, who link via the internet; support materials are provided including an extensive reading package to support the on-line material; modules studied: International relations in the 20th century; diplomacy and the global world; concepts in international history; dissertation; 1 option from: money, trade and development; international security; consumption and media cultures in a global world.

The course offers an intellectually stimulating approach to the study of international history through a theoretically based programme that aims to provide an understanding of global historical developments in the 20th and emerging 21st centuries; the course offers a broad international perspective on relationships and events between and amongst states over time, and ways of integrating specific national or regional approaches with aspects of world history.
