6 modules (120 credits); 4 compulsory modules (20 credits each): Population ageing and policy( an introduction); perspectives on ageing; foundations in research; health and ageing; 2 of 4 optional modules (20 credits each) allows students to study particular topics in greater depth; optional modules include: policies and practices for an ageing population; critical social work with older people; environment and ageing; older people, citizenship and participation.

Вступительные требования

Honours degree (2:2 or above) or equivalent; candidates with non-standard qualifications may be admitted with relevant work experience, such as 2 years employment in local authorities, health, private and voluntary organisations and industry, or professional qualification with requisite approval; international applicants are encouraged and are required to have equivalent of minimum IELTS 6.5 /TOEFL 570 in English language prior to starting the programme; the university provides English language tuition to prepare international students for study.

This course includes: Working with older people; designing policies for older people; managing and delivering services for older people; designing or manufacturing products for an ageing population; joining the research community; the course acknowledges that ageing is accompanied by biological changes, but takes a holistic approach to ageing; it shifts the central focus from the medical model of ageing, to one that encompasses a range of disciplines and views ageing more positively.
