Level 3 qualification in the subject to be taught; all students should hold their subject specialist qualification at 1 level above the level at which they teach; positive references from 2 referees; completion of health questionnaire; a suitable identified mentor (identified by the College); passes in literacy and numeracy tests at NQF level 2; an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau clearance.

This is a sector endorsed teacher training course for teachers in the lifelong learning sector, including further education, adult education, nursing and skills for life; successful completion of this qualification will enable the student to register for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) and practice as a teacher in the lifelong learning sector; this is a modular non-competence academic programme; the course encourages the practitioner to focus strongly on their professional role and identity through critical analysis of practice and relevant theory; the programme offers a combination of taught hours, independent study, and supported study (including 1-to-1 supervised tutorials and teaching observations where appropriate, portfolio building and selected group activities).
