This is a sector endorsed teacher training course for teachers in the lifelong learning sector, including further education, adult education, nursing and skills for life; in 2007 a new set of standards was developed by Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK), who have taken over the role of FENTO; teacher education programmes are now endorsed by the Standards Verification Unit of LLUK, known as SVUK; this programme has achieved the necessary SVUK endorsement; successful completion of this qualification enables the student to register for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) and practice as a teacher in the lifelong learning sector; this is a modular non-competence academic programme; the programme offers a combination of taught hours, independent study, and supported study (including 1-to-1 supervised tutorials and teaching observations where appropriate, portfolio building and selected group activities); the programme is made up of 60 credits at NQF level 4 and 60 credits at NQF level 5.
