All years: Core: canonical or traditional, historical and contemporary theoretical approaches to the study of literary and other cultural texts, for example in a study of the Romantic period or of postcolonial African literatures, as well as opportunities to study children’s literature, women’s fiction and autobiographical writing; the study of language provides students with the ability to describe the structures of English and to analyse the organisation of written and spoken discourse; students then study language in use, including issues of language and gender, language and ethnicity and dialect and language variation; option modules include cultural history, film studies and web-based modules and the professional practice module to gain accredited work experience in a related area.
