Stage 1: In 1st year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of visual design and media content production alongside software application development and establishing personal approaches to design and production practices; this is the stage where academic practices and attitudes to study are established. Stage 2: Professional skills and practices and technical and procedural skills reach an advanced level; attitudes to how these skills can be deployed in support of creativity and innovation are established and communications skills are developed through group and project work. Stage 3: Students are expected to become a confident design practitioners and develop a mature visual style through sustained personal effort over a range of projects; by the end of stage 3 all students have knowledge of how to enter the professional world of media design. Stage 4: The final or Honours year gives students the opportunity to undertake a significant and sustained design or production project individually or in a cross discipline group; students graduating from this stage understand the contextual factors that inform design practices and explore a particular cultural, entertainment or communications context in which to explore the application of their skills and knowledge in the production of design solutions.

This course helps students to become professional media designers able to produce high quality visual/graphic designs, video and audio media content and to contribute to studio teams that create innovative on and off-line digital media solutions; the course equips students with high-level design ability, an understanding of current technologies, and professional communications skills in the context of current and future media industries; it enables student to develop design solutions for cross platform delivery and also develop a professional portfolio of work in preparation for a career in media design; in undertaking this course, students work on a wide range of projects that involve planning, development and management of a range of media design solutions; students graduate with a deep knowledge of the subject area and problem solving and communications skills that allow them to work effectively with software developers and clients and to continue to develop throughout their career.
