Foundation year: Provides excellent grounding in the fundamentals of science and mathematics in preparation for studying engineering and related subjects at degree levels; studies are supplemented by practical and workshop experience carried out in our specialist engineering laboratories. Year 1: Analytical methods; business environment; communications and information technology; construction technology; computer-aided design; design and technology; environmental studies; measurement and cost studies; surveying. Year 2: architectural technology design studio; building and environmental technology; computer-aided design; contract procedures and procurement; development studies; research methods; risk management; statutory control of development. Year 3: architectural technology design studio; business management and professional studies; construction technology; dissertation; interdisciplinary project; statutory control of development; options: environmental management; project management; housing studies.

This course is designed to achieve the intellectual, technical and practical skills necessary to pursue a career as an architectural technologist; plus developing the ability to analyse, evaluate and resolve design and technological problems and develop high-level computer-aided design skills, including virtual reality; students may also undertake a 1-year work placement and achieve a degree in the sandwich mode of study; students learn about the unique role of the architectural technologist within the design and construction team and develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to pursue a career in architectural technology; the course includes interdisciplinary group project work which simulates what actually happens during a construction project from inception to completion; students undertake the role of the architectural technologist within a team of other construction specialists and the project is assessed by a panel which includes representatives from industry and the professions.
