The normal entry requirement is an honours degree in electronics or a related subject; relevant industrial experience coupled with a different qualification (such as an HND) will also be considered, providing the applicant demonstrates the potential to succeed; students holding overseas degrees are very welcome and the equivalent of their qualifications will be assessed; overseas applicants will need to demonstrate English language ability to the level of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.

The course aims to bring students to a high level of knowledge and understanding in areas of electronics design that include specialisms the industry has identified as skills shortage areas; it has been designed to help prepare new graduates in electronics for the role of design engineer, or for a career in research; design techniques, flows and methodologies are demonstrated by the use of industry standard computer-aided design software; associated business issues are covered.
