The following modules are studied within this course: Fundamentals of fire behaviour; materials and fire retardants; materials’ burning behaviour; research methods in advanced materials; research project in advanced materials; individual project work is undertaken within the participants’ company wherever possible, ensuring both the relevance to the employer, access to appropriate facilities, and allowing sufficient time to be spent on the practical work; alternatively, projects could be based and carried out at the University.

The course aims to create a postgraduate learning culture that enables participants to: Engage and benefit from exposure to modern and advanced materials, methodologies and applications used in high technology and science-based industries; and equip graduates from the course with relevant knowledge and skills ready for employment or/and career progression in their existing profession.
