The 2 subject areas that make up this course utilise a number of common techniques in the critical analysis of visual and literary artefacts; studying them together gives students the opportunity to develop a broader cultural history and to investigate the relationships between words and images; the art history and visual culture programme explores the ways in which people’s lives have become shaped through contact with, and consumption of, images and designed objects; it aims to develop a critical understanding of different aspects of contemporary visual culture as well as an awareness of its recent historical developments; the subject centres on the disciplines of art history, design history and aesthetics, at the same time challenging the notion of such distinct approaches to the study of visual culture; the subject English literature on the combined Honours programme embraces a wide diversity of modules, ranging from those traditionally associated with the discipline, such as Shakespeare and Victorian Literature, to innovative modules on creative writing, Tolkien, the fairy tale and children's literature; learning is mainly through illustrated lectures and seminars, but the courses also involve screenings, educational visits etc where appropriate.

Расположение

Город Престон является культурной столицей графства Ланкашир и связан с остальными частями страны отличной системой автодорожного, железнодорожного и авиасообщения. Университет расположен в 10 минутах ходьбы от главной железнодорожной станции. Дорога на поезде от Престона до Манчестера занимает 45 минут, до Лондона – 2 часа 15 минут, а до Ливерпуля – 1 час. До аэропортов Манчестера, Ливерпуля и Блэкпула также легко добраться.
