This is a course which particularly suits the needs of students wishing to develop a political and social understanding of exclusion and disadvantage with a view to working in the community; it features a range of social policy and welfare subjects together with skills teaching and the opportunity for practical experience in a community setting; the course equips students with an in-depth understanding of the concepts of social care and citizenship together with knowledge of key statutory and voluntary welfare services for children and adults; the degree has a particular focus on equipping students with the skills to quickly move into paid employment or postgraduate studies; in the final year students can choose to work as a volunteer in a community project: this is an alternative to the dissertation, and is designed to enable students to enhance their employability and gather work experience; the course also incorporates knowledge of community development and of welfare in Europe; as an integral element of their course students may participate in an international exchange programme during the 2nd year of the course.

Расположение

Город Престон является культурной столицей графства Ланкашир и связан с остальными частями страны отличной системой автодорожного, железнодорожного и авиасообщения. Университет расположен в 10 минутах ходьбы от главной железнодорожной станции. Дорога на поезде от Престона до Манчестера занимает 45 минут, до Лондона – 2 часа 15 минут, а до Ливерпуля – 1 час. До аэропортов Манчестера, Ливерпуля и Блэкпула также легко добраться.
