Fine art Year 1: Introduction to virtual art practice; studio practice 1 (double); studio practice 1 (single); studio practice 2 (double);studio practice 2 (single); workshop 1; workshop 2; art contexts and theories (act 1); art concepts and theories (act 2). Year 2: Art animation for screen; advanced digital art practice; studio practice 3 (single); studio practice 4 (single); workshop 3; workshop 4; discourse 1 and 2. Year 3: Independent digital art practice; dissertation; essay and vocational; professional practice; exhibition C. Fine art digital Level 1: This level typically includes: training and acquisition of knowledge of industry standard hardware and software for the development of image manipulation practices together with a broad overview of art concepts and contexts; projects to a set brief simulating a professional outcome for either print or electronic image which utilises and demonstrates the range of understanding of the art and design principles and technical concerns of the software package and electronic images being used; set exercises to become familiar with the operation of the software applications and tools. Level 2: Instruction in the appropriate use of professional digital animation software packages and the use of appropriate hardware; the introduction of video and sound as components of art practice; deployment of an enlarged critical and technical vocabulary. Level 3: Working individually students must research and develop a distinctive concept that challenges and extends their knowledge of the potential for digital art; students research professional practice to inform the development of their own projects; students are supported through individual tutorials and group discussion critiques; students present a body of work, which demonstrates their ability to resolve ideas, concepts and proposals, through independent and/or collaborative work.

This is a major/minor combination which allows students to study 2 subjects; the major subject (fine art) makes up 75 per cent of the course, and the minor subject (fine art digital) makes up 25 per cent of the course; on the fine art course students can either specialise from the outset or can experiment with a wide range of disciplines and media before committing to a particular approach in level 3; students are encouraged to experiment with diverse methodologies in the search for a personal artistic vision; the following routes are available: painting; textiles; general fine art; sculpture; printmaking; design for digital media; students can develop selected skills in: drawing; painting; printmaking; digital photography; digital media; welding; bronze or aluminium casting; carving; plaster; ceramics; woven and printed textiles; felt-making; embroidery and/or papermaking; fine art digital encompasses a range of practical activities and approaches to the production of fine art outputs including: photography; video; sound; net.art; Flash animation; installation and projection; the minor is designed as a sequential series of practical modules using industry-standard hardware and software as the tools to create digital artworks for digital photo print, net.art and the internet, video and screen-based installation; it is intended for students who wish to be literate in the practical uses, contexts and application of a range of visual digital design tools and to apply them both to their main study and to complement their skills for potential employment; application deadline: March 2010.
