The 3 main elements of the programme are: professional studies and curriculum modules; subject study modules; school experience; the professional studies addresses issues which typically include: lesson planning; assessment and monitoring; behaviour management; skills to teach; effective primary teaching; personal, social and health education (PHSE); Citizenship; equality and inclusion; special educational needs (SEN); professional development issues; the role of the subject managers; the headteacher; governors and Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) within the standards debate; the curriculum modules typically include: core curriculum: these modules address the key issues of teaching the core subjects (English, mathematics and science) in primary schools; information and communication technology: how to teach the National Curriculum for information and communication technology; foundation subjects: for example, the teaching of physical education, history, religious education, art, and the performing arts (music and drama), etc; the independent project: a double module enabling trainees to develop further their independent research enquiry by extending their intellectual, creative and communication skills in a chosen area; options module: the student chooses 1 from a range of options modules in their final year; the subject study modules are designed to develop the student’s knowledge and understanding of the subject at degree level; these may include: year 1: the early years curriculum; the framework of services for children; year 2: child development; the role of play in the early years; year 3: childhood, children's rights and approaches to education.

This course prepares the student to teach in the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 (ages 3 - 7); the students is able to specialise in 1 Key Stage through their final school placement; the course offers 3 integrated elements of teacher education: the development of the student’s own specialist subject knowledge; the development of professional knowledge; substantial teaching experience in schools and other settings (124 days); this course is taught at the Bognor Regis campus.
