In year 1 students undertake aspects of practical outdoor activity instruction and expedition planning as well as studying still photography applied to adventurous activities and they’ll engage in group management through experiential learning projects; these themes are developed in the 2nd and 3rd years with modules in expedition management, adventure filming, practical outdoor leadership and outdoor activity management; the outdoor education courses are all delivered through a range of formal lectures, seminars, workshops and discussion groups; practical work, on the campus and throughout the local area, naturally plays an important role in students' learning; students are expected to carry out independent study throughout the course; the planning and undertaking of fieldwork and expedition work, which may be abroad, is a feature of the programme.
