Students are encouraged to observe both overall character and the precise details of individual subjects; they study the relationship between text and image, and the narrative; participants develop the skills needed to explore their subject, skills they can later develop through: drawing; printmaking; painting; photography; digital or interactive media; students adopt an experimental approach to subjects, media and processes, though all students are encouraged to develop a solid foundation of drawing, markmaking and observational skills; they evolve their own style, which could be traditional, contemporary or pitched towards the future; the course is studio-based and students’ developing skills are supported by studies providing a critical and contextual framework.
