Practice-based research is reviewed, evaluated and presented alongside practical work as part of the assessment for the practice-based modules; students undertake either a major practice-based research project resulting in a substantial body of practical work and an accompanying practice report, or a 15,000-word dissertation; also includes involvement in planning, publicising and organising an exhibition of the student's work to an external audience.

2.1 Honours degree or equivalent experience/qualifications in field relevant to proposed study area; applicants should have access to basic work facilities out of college for carrying out proposed studies e.g. studio or workspace, word-processor or PC, basic technical equipment.

Course offers a diversity of applied arts practice, with students able to work across disciplines or towards a specialist route in embroidered textiles, printed textiles, constructed textiles, millinery or ceramics; primary focus of the programme is practice-based research.
