Year 1: Research methods; contemporary culture; theories of contemporary society; psychology and society; and study skills; year 2; pursue particular interests through a combination of taught modules, independent study and a dissertation, a project studied in depth with support from a specialist tutor.

A 1st or 2nd class Honours degree or equivalent from a recognised institution if you are a UK resident; EU and overseas applicants appropriate equivalence will apply; applications without standard qualifications must demonstrate; the capacity for theoretical debate; a high level of motivation; the capacity for independent study; the ability to achieve the proposed programme of work; students for whom English is not their 1st language must have achieved IELTS level 6 English language qualification.

Through a range of core and optional modules, students study some of the key thinkers in contemporary social science, particularly from the fields of sociology, psychology and cultural studies; students are encouraged to critically consider how contemporary theory applies to a range of issues impacting on people’s everyday lives and the implications.
