All students are registered on to Bachelor of Arts (Honours) physical education, taking a series of compulsory (core) modules in the 1st year; in the 2nd year the student has the option of enhancing their physical education degree by choosing a pathway in health development or sport development; there is a 5-week, 80-hour equivalent, work- experience placement at the end of the 2nd year, where the student applies their learning; the student is helped secure a placement in a school, in coaching, sport development or health promotion; core modules prepare the student for this experience and help them reflect upon it to enhance their personal and professional development.

The programme is designed to promote and extend the student’s knowledge and skills relating to the study of physical education, sport development and health development; the course relates to physical education in the National Curriculum; the student can follow a specific career pathway in physical education, health-related exercise or sport development; in the transition period between the 1st and 2nd years the student is guided to choose the course which best suits their future career.
