All students conduct an extended research project in computer graphics; in years 2 and 3 a free choice option enables students to choose a module in any subject of their choice from over 1,500 modules; students could choose to study a foreign language, another science, music or development studies for example. Year 1: During the 1st year of the programme students undertake a range of compulsory modules, specifically designed to provide them with a solid foundation in computers and computing systems, problem solving, programming and relevant mathematics and computing theory; modules may include: the computing revolution; computing fundamentals; computer programming; mathematics for computing; computing systems. Year 2: in the 2nd year students learn to implement 2-dimensional graphics applications in addition to developing further programming skills; they study compulsory modules in computer graphics and data structures and algorithms; students also have some choice to allow them to develop their specialist interests; modules may include: introductory graphics; sound and image processing; artificial intelligence; internet technologies; theoretical computing. Year 3: the 3rd year provides an opportunity to study computer graphics in more depth while undertaking a major individual project; examples of modules may include: animation, virtual environments and games development; graphics II; advanced computer graphics; software engineering for the internet; computer networks.

This course, which combines the study of core computing science with specialist topics in computer graphics, introduces students to contemporary issues at the frontiers of computer graphics.
