Year 1: Students gain an introduction to animation principles through fundamental exercises that apply to both 2-dimensional and stop-motion animation; students can then progress to develop more advanced skills, dealing with the traditional and digital aspects of animation. Years 2 and 3: Students can specialise in the following areas: character animation; animated short film-making; illustration for media; Flash Animator; concept artist; storyboard artist; background artist; character designer; comic book artist; stop-motion model/puppet-maker/sculptor for animation production.

This course is generally practical in orientation and is taught in ways that recognise industrial methods and practices;it concentrates on developing production skills through an emphasis on originality, creativity, experimentation and innovation within the media; specialist areas range across 2-dimensional classical, 3-dimensional model and computer animation; there is also a strong critical and contextual element, balancing practical work with the necessary theory; application deadline: March 2010.
