Year 1: Students are introduced to the fundamentals of fashion learning whilst developing skills and confidence in drawing, research, illustration, pattern cutting and garment construction; design history modules link written practice to the historical and cultural analysis of design. Year 2: The course continues with industry directed briefs, live projects and competitions; the principles of manufacture, production and product development underpin all design work, whilst innovation and creativity remain paramount; students also have the opportunity to interact on live briefs alongside fashion promotion students including, styling, photography and merchandising. Year 3: Optional industrial placement. Final year: Students are given the opportunity to negotiate a brief for the final year; this includes completing a design portfolio and rationale, a collection of garments or product development, supporting research and a presentation of all the year’s work.

This course is aimed at the 21st-century designer who can provide a portfolio of design innovation, digital technology and market awareness; to improve employability, this course has a strong emphasis on consumer market research, creative design, technological innovation and computer visualisation of products concepts and finished ranges; the course responds to the ever challenging scenarios faced when aiding the worlds resources, ethics and environment; the course is primarily concerned with womenswear, menswear and knitwear; it is project and studio based and integrates design, technology and theory; all projects are based on industry style briefs, and promote individual creativity and interpretation.
