Education studies The course is structured in keeping with the University’s positive stance on inclusivity which requires an examination and critical debate of what is the nature of learning and education (making the course accessible to a wide community, catering for the individual needs of all the potential students) and how this concept has influenced practice: past, present and future; optional modules enable the student to follow their own individual interests and career choices; modules may include: e-learning; inclusive education; education in and for society; thinking to learn: learning to think; partnership and participation in education; educational research. English literature Modules may include: reading literature/practising criticism; stages of drama; essays in theory; contemporary fiction: writing back to history; explorations in 19th-Century writing; fiction and poetry since 1900.

The education studies programme is designed to encourage and support deep learning about the world of education; the way knowledge is transmitted, learnt and applied has been and is changing with the increase of new technologies and changing perceptions about what constitutes knowledge; this course examines and analyses the theories, values, policies and practices which underpin approaches to education for all, both in the United Kingdom and beyond; the English literature course allows the student to follow their own literary interests and helps them to develop an area of special interest, such as American literature or Caribbean writing; taking the student on a chronological journey covering the last 400 years, the course explores a wide range of works, helping the student to gain a sound knowledge of literary forms and conventions; bringing it off the page and into the spotlight, the student reads, discusses and writes about an exciting array of texts from a variety of perspectives; a period of study abroad may be possible as part of the programme.
