B.A. degree or equivalent degree with an overall grade of at least 2.5 (no additional oral examination). With an overall grade from 2.6 to 3.0 there will be an additional oral examination.
Relevance of previous studies: Verification is required of academic achievement in general and comparative literary science (comparative literature) or in an individual philology with a scope of at least 45 credits, including credits in the field of literary science totalling at least 17 credits.Applicants must present evidence of reading skills in two modern foreign languages, of which one must be either English or French, on B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or comparable language skills.
If you are not a native German speaker, you must demonstrate sufficient German language skills on level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). You can demonstrate these skills by the successful completion of the DSH-exam (at least DSH-2) or the TestDaF (at least 4XTDN4).

The programme Comparative Literature aims to make students familiar with the contents and working methods of general and comparative literature and cultural studies. Philological questions are being associated with interdisciplinary cultural-scientific perspectives.
As a part of general literary studies, Comparative Literature approaches the fundamental questions of literature theory, methodology, poetics and intertextuality.
