Year 1: An induction week is followed by an intensive visual and media research week, designed to help you explore and visualise ideas; practical studies in semester A address imaging (photography and digital image processes) and also introduce video, sound and interactivity (web and other digital interactive media); through these studies, students gain core media skills and develop ability to respond to and progress ideas in a challenging and stimulating environment; students also strengthen their own image-making skills, as well as gain insights into the theory behind their studio work through a critical and cultural studies module. Year 2: Students build on and consolidate your image-making and conceptual skills with further practical and theoretical studies; students have the freedom to choose course content and end the 2nd practice module with your own project; students have the opportunity to complete a period of work experience through the live project module; a critical and cultural studies module gives students their studies a broader cultural framework. Final year: Students are able to combine practical and theoretical concerns; students are also able to select appropriate media and develop ideas with discussion and support from the tutors; the year culminates with the degree project and essay, and ends with an exhibition of the student’s work; it may include more work experience, or some other form of working practice.

Students study a wide range of photographic practices within a variety of genres, such as fashion, advertising and editorial, fine art and photo-journalism; students also develop the narrative content of their image-making through short videos and interactive work.
