The programme includes 5 modules from a specialism plus optional modules; the professional modules include: school experience (at least 24 weeks over 3 years); core modules in English, mathematics and science; foundation subjects; assessment for learning; teacher as researcher; optional modules include: special educational needs; curriculum for young children; children's literature. Year 1: Modules may include: problem solving: using and applying mathematics; introduction to mathematical modelling. Year 2: modules may include: the role of the co-ordinator of mathematics within the primary school. Year 3: modules may include: mathematical proof; theoretical issues about the process of learning mathematics; independent study.

The mathematics specialism looks at problem solving, the nature of proof and the role of the curriculum leader for mathematics; this qualification enables the student to begin the induction year of teaching, on completion of which they gain full registration with the General Teaching Council for England; this course is taught at the Scarborough campus.
