Level 1: All students take the following two units across the whole year: an introduction to audio visual culture; techniques of investigation, writing and presentation; all students take six workshop units (three per semester); design and visual communication workshops; digital media workshops; photography workshops; script & screenwriting workshops; radio and sound workshops; single/multi camera and editing workshops. Level 2: All students take the following three units: working in the media industries; analysing the media industry; preparation for independent study; students select two workshop units and a related critical studies unit; design workshops and projects; digital media workshops and projects; photography workshops and projects; multi camera workshops and projects; script & screenwriting workshops; single camera workshops & projects; radio and sound workshops and projects; advertising and culture; entertainment and popular culture; photography digital media and design in context; public service broadcasting; representing reality; modernism and experimental concepts. Level 3: All students follow two project units in the chosen pathway: production project 1 and 2; all students will also take the research & development unit, contemporary media debates and a media independent study; contemporary media debates; research and development; media independent study (dissertation); students choose one of the following critical studies options: society aesthetics and digital media; authorship and agency; considering the audience; globalisation and contemporary culture; representing difference; horror and fantasy.

This programme of study provides an educational context in which students develop creative, critical, analytical, technical and organisational skills appropriate to eventual employment in the media industries; it offers students opportunities to write and produce in a variety of media forms, to analyse and critique media products and to gain an understanding of the issues and debates surrounding media both nationally and globally.
