The course is multi-disciplinary in content; it offers a holistic programme of public administrative and vocational skills through a blend of administration and management modules; the course is designed to appeal to both recent graduates with no or limited experience of employment in public sector organisations, as well as middle or senior managers who wish to add further academic skills and qualifications to their existing expertise; students gain knowledge and skills in relation to the major elements of the study of public administration, public management and public policy; they learn to think critically and analyse and assess problems in the field of public administration and management; students learn to understand the interplay of political, governmental and administrative influences in the making of public policy and its implementation; they discuss and criticise the role of the state, privatisation, deregulation, Europe, devolution and related developments.
