Level 1: Compulsory course units: educational policy and practice (1); educational studies; learning with information communication technology; research methods in education (1); and an introduction to the psychology of child development; core course units are, depending on the selected pathway: an introduction to humanities, science or mathematics. Level 2: compulsory course units: educational policy and practice (2); teaching and learning with information communication technology; research methods in education (2); and special needs in education; plus options. Level 3: compulsory modules: issues in education; research methods in education (3); plus a dissertation which builds on the levels 2 and 3 course units; plus core choices, depending on the chosen pathway in humanities, mathematics or science together with optional course units in special educational needs.

This course has been designed mainly for those who are seeking a possible route through to a career in education and the part time nature of the degree provides access to higher education for those students who are currently employed and would be unable to commit to full time academic study; this route involves all the demands of a full degree course, but offers the flexibility of evening lectures, strong academic support for all students and a longer period of study; there is a compulsory component for each of the 3 levels of the degree course in the form of general education and other core units; when the compulsory and core elements have been selected students may chose 1 of 2 pathways: Humanities or mathematics and science; there is a choice of course units at all 3 levels of the degree course for both pathways.
