Applicants need a German university entrance qualification or a foreign school-leaving certificate corresponding to the German Abitur (university entrance qualification). A university degree (bachelor) in a philological subject, in which linguistics was included. You will need to have an adequate knowledge of German. For most German-taught programmes, applicants need to provide evidence of German language skills at DSH-2-level. Please note that for some programmes, a lower (DSH-1) or higher (DSH-3) German language level is required. Satisfactory proficiency in English as a language of science and discourse has to be demonstrated before taking up your studies. The required skills correspond to the general level B1 for spoken language and C2 for reading comprehension.
The Master in Applied Linguistics puts an emphasis on the aspect of communication. In particular, skills that enable students to describe and analyse linguistic phenomena in both written and oral interaction will be taught.
The skills acquired in this Master degree promote an understanding for language that will allow students to work in jobs that demand the analytical competence needed in order to understand how and why language is used in certain situations.
