Accounting Stage 1: During the 1st stage, students are introduced to the important conceptual issues which underpin accounting and start to learn some of the techniques and skills required; students are concerned with recording, reporting and interpreting basic financial and cost accounting information. Stage 2: This stage concentrates heavily on corporate reporting, management accounting and the role of the accountant in organisational decision-making. Stage 3: In the final stage, students study the more strategic and specialist areas of accounting and finance including financial services, banking, investment management and insurance. Biological conservation Stage 1: Students are introduced to a range of basic concepts and theories relating to ecology and biodiversity, such as limits to distribution, population ecology, species' interactions, and taxonomy and classification of organisms. Stage 2: Themes are developed in relation to the ecology and management of a range of terrestrial and aquatic habitats. Stage 3: The emphasis is on applied aspects of ecology with the focus on conservation; field and lab-based activity is an important component of the course; Park Campus contains a number of habitats which are used for practical work and 2 nature reserves are located on land adjacent to the campus; the programme incorporates taxonomy and systematics, in order to provide a firm foundation for developing identification skills.

All joint Honours degrees may also be studied as major/minor combinations; students should ensure the correct UCAS code is used for the specific combination they require; accounting and finance encompasses a wide range of activities including recording and reporting financial performance, monitoring and controlling activity and resources as well as helping to make sound operational and strategic decisions; there are several specialisations such as financial services, auditing, taxation, risk management, and information systems; the course has an international focus; biological conservation enables students to acquire a range of skills appropriate for ecological investigations and to promote effective skills for obtaining, handling and communicating information; students develop their knowledge and understanding of the scientific process and methods of inquiry appropriate to ecological investigations, along with the values and attitudes needed for work in a scientific discipline; the course offers opportunities to develop particular interests in wildlife conservation, biodiversity assessment and habitat management; an important feature of the course is the emphasis on field and practical activities.

Расположение

Город Нортгемптон находится в центральной Англии, в часе езды от Бирмингема, Лондона и Оксфорда. Университету принадлежат два зеленых кампуса, находящихся в 6,5 км от центра города Нортгемптон. Университет расположен недалеко от основных железнодорожных и автомобильных магистралей страны, между кампусами ходят бесплатные автобусы. Два кампуса Университета – это Парк Кампус (Park Campus) в Кингсторпе – северном пригороде Нортгемптона - и Авеню Кампус (Avenue Campus), который находится немного к северу от центра города, напротив большого парка под названием Racecourse. С 1924 года на Авеню Кампусе располагается технологический колледж, вошедший в состав Университета.
